I stood on Amanda’s veranda ready for a whole night of study. I was greatly surprised when she opened the door wearing a red mini-dress.<\/p>\n

“Who?”<\/p>\n
“Daniel and Kevin. We are going to Jason Green’s birtday party.”<\/p>\n
“What? No. I’m not ready. I didn’t know. I’d better go home.”<\/p>\n
“Please, Karen, put on this dress. I’ll help you with the make up and hairdo.\u201d
\nAmanda looked very nervous.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat happened?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know that I like Kevin.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, but why do you want me to go?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cDaniel agreed to bring Kevin, if I brought you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt makes no sense.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cKaren, Daniel likes you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think so.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI swear. Believe me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cActually, I think that studying doesn\u2019t make us friends. I don\u2019t like going to different parties.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amanda looked shocked. \u201cBut you are my closest friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMe? Really? But there are always so many people around you.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBut it doesn\u2019t mean that they are my friends. Please, come with me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ring, ring, ring! Amanda opened the door. Daniel stood on the veranda. \u201cHi, girls! Karen, you look fantastic!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThanks, its Amanda\u2019s work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Daniel looked surprised. \u201cI think you always look great.\u201d<\/p>\n
When we arrived at the party, everyone came up to Amanda as usual. But then they asked \u201cand who is your friend?\u201d<\/p>\n
After several minutes Amanda looked fed up and I thought she was jealous of the attention I got. We walked up the stairs and she said \u201cI want to make an announcement.\u201d<\/p>\n
I felt really nervous. Everyone gathered around.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to answer the same question one hundred times. This is my friend, Karen, from math class. You should know her. Today she looks great, and it is strange for me that you haven\u2019t noticed her wonderful qualities until now.\u201d<\/p>\n
For a minute everyone remained silent but, then, the party continued.<\/p>\n
So many people talked with me that night and, what surprised me most of all, they looked truly interested. But Daniel\u2019s words meant the most.<\/p>\n
